Chapter 2: The Flash of Vision Disable

Kris stared into the (this cannot be a Police Box!!) in awe. It looked like Science-Fiction, but this, was obviously Science-Non-Fiction. The Doctor guy pushed her in from behind then came in, closing the door behind him. The Doctor unzipped the bag just large enough for a small hand to reach in.

‘You have to reach in there, pull it out and jam it into this socket as fast as you can.’ (The Doctor pointed over to a bin-type apparatus on the side of the confusing jumble of levers and mechanical machinery) ‘DO NOT let it flash, I don’t know how many times that thing has flashed at you, but any more, and it could be disastrous. OK, count of three. One… Two… Three!’

Kris jammed her small hand inside her bag and struggled to pull it out, it seemed to be able to move about in the air with considerable force. It struggled, but Kris took a very tight grip to it. Pulling it out of the bag and putting it in the bin proved immensely difficult, but she got it in. Just as she was closing the lid, it flashed. The white blindness came over her again, but did not go away. She eventually blacked out completely and fell to the floor on her back…

Kris re-awoke. The world was fuzzy, but, nonetheless, she could see. As her vision cleared up, she saw The Doctor looking around urgently.

‘What happened…?’ Kris groaned, getting up off her back and rubbing the place on her head where she had hit the ground. The Doctor swiveled around to face Kris, but his eyes didn’t look like they where focused on her, more, behind her.

‘That last flash was all it took, this is not good.’ The Doctor replied. ‘That thing you found was a Photographic Vision Disable Flasher.’

‘What’s that?’ Kris asked. ‘I’m not blind from it!’

‘Err… that’s not what they meant by “vision disable.”’ The Doctor replied.

‘OK, then what did they mean?’

‘Well, what they meant by “vision disable” was that if that thing flashes a certain amount of times at someone, that person or animal ends up being rubbed from everyone else’s vision. Unfortunately, that’s you right now.’

‘WHAT!?’ Kris screamed. ‘There better be a way to fix this!!’

‘I don’t know any methods, but I have an idea that might just work.’ Said The Doctor. ‘But I think you will need to come with me. Otherwise, I don’t think anyone has any hope of seeing you ever again. Oh, and sorry I couldn’t pull that thing out of the bag myself, they deliver extremely painful and potentially fatal electric shocks to my kind when touched.’

‘Umm…’ Kris needed time to think… Wait, did she? This didn’t exactly involve too much choice. ‘Fine, I’ll come, but you better find a cure or whatnot for this!’

‘I can try, but I can’t promise. What I can promise is that you’re not going to find it by not coming with me.’

Kris nodded as a reply. After a second she realized that he couldn’t see her anyway and said, ‘I’ll do it, then.’

‘Great!’ Said The Doctor. ‘Let’s get traveling!’ The doctor started to pull many different levers and push many different buttons.

CRASH!

Off to a very shaky start, the (whatever this thing was) tipped to the side sharply. The Doctor seemed prepared for this, as he was climbing over the machinery and operating it. Kris, on the other hand, went hurtling to the side and smashed painfully into the wall. And, just like that, the journey was over before it had really begun.

‘Nice of you to tell me about that Mr. Doctor, wasn’t it? Now what is this thing called, anyway?’

‘This thing, is called the Tardis. Multidimensional spaceship and time machine. Great piece of work, isn’t it? Now take a look out the door and see if you can guess where we are.’

Kris approached the door and wrenched it open. They where in a large city, clouded a little from all the fumes, a sign said they where in a tiny, concealed corner in Federation Square.

‘We’re in Melbourne, Australia! I haven’t been here in ages!’

‘And this is where we might be able to find a solution.’ Said The Doctor from behind Kris. ‘Now, this is just a tiny corner, so nothings changed here, but when you get out, we’re in April 23, 2025. Oh, and please keep hold of my arm so I know where you are, and try not to bump into anyone.’

‘OK, where are we going?’

‘You’ll see.’

Kris went over and grabbed The Doctors arm with one hand, and he led her out the door, and out of the tiny, squished corner with an oddly placed sign. But, the scenery changed much when they got into the main square. It was Melbourne like she had never seen it before. All the same buildings where there, but they where taller and more, how should I say it, modernized.

‘Wow!’ Kris said. ‘This is cool! So, now will you please tell me, where are we going? Stop being so secretive!’

‘We are going,’ Said The Doctor. ‘To the Crown Towers. I know that sounds strange, but I do think that it may hold the solution to your problem.
